The original Beta Nu Fraternity House was owned by Rev. Br. Moses General Miles. The fraternity lost this house in 1995 to the University in lieu of plans to expand the science department. Shortly after, Bro. Tirrell Whitley and several others initiated an extensive fundraising and research process in order to find Beta Nu a new home. It was Beta Nu brother and FAMU President Frederick S. Humphries who stepped up in 1997 and purchased the current Fraternity House that is located at 2115 Martin Luther King Blvd. Today, the Frederick S. Humphries Science Research Center stands where the original Beta Nu Fraternity House once stood.
The Beta Nu Alumni Housing Foundation was established in 2005 (subsequently renamed to Beta Nu Foundation in 2019) under the leadership of Bros. Reggie Mitchell and David Jefferson. The foundation had one main objective at its inception: to preserve and protect the house. Under Bro. Mitchell’s leadership in addition to the contributions of many Brothers, the mortgage on the house was paid off the same year. Nearly 15 years later brothers have continued to support the Beta Nu Foundation and ensure that the house stands strong.
The Beta Nu Foundation later received 501(c)3 status and completed a $50,000 campaign that helped fund major renovations and complete a transformation of the house.
Since that time, the Beta Nu Foundation has expanded its efforts to include scholarship goals in addition to programs that support professional and personal development throughout the brotherhood. The board recently voted to change the name from the Beta Nu Alumni Housing Foundation to the Beta Nu Foundation to better reflect our ongoing mission, which focuses on growing our three pillars…Scholarship, Housing & Brotherhood.
Our SCHOLARSHIP pillar is focused on increasing the size of the Moses General Miles Scholarship Endowment with the FAMU Foundation
The Beta Nu Foundation believes in the value of higher education as a tool for community development, and our scholarships provide the support needed to help facilitate the college dream for students while fulfilling our commitment to being an active supporter of Florida A&M University.
Our BROTHERHOOD pillar is focused on bridging the gap the college and alumni brothers and leveraging experience, networks and relationships to create opportunities for the collective and individuals. BN BLOC is a conference and idea that was born from this effort, with our initial conference held in Atlanta Georgia in April of 2023.
Our HOUSING pillar is focused on the long‐term maintenance of the Beta Nu fraternity house and exploration of future opportunities for a physical presence in the area surrounding the FAMU. Future plans include improvements to the fraternity house, development of meeting space for events, and additional housing for Florida A&M University students.
